The West Window at York Minster shows the Heart of Jesus in the stone tracery.
It is often described as ‘The Heart of Yorkshire’ which is a lovely name to give it.
When the medieval masons and glaziers were designing this magnificent window their faith would have informed their work.
The window dates from the late 1330s at a time when devotion to Jesus that reflected on his loving heart was developing.
Notice that it is not just a heart shape. Above the heart emerges a fountain – flames of his love for us.
Whenever you see York Minster remember it is not just a jewel of a Cathedral; it is also a huge sign of the love of Jesus Christ.
It would be a hard job finding a bigger representation of the Heart of Jesus than this anywhere on earth. And, of course, Jesus’ own Heart is greater even than this.
