Pope Francis
We have all been saddened by the news of the death of the Holy Father. A truly inspiring leader for the Church, he has touched the minds and hearts of millions. He called to be a ‘synodal’ Church of humility in which we journey together listening and respecting each other.
God has called the Pope home in this year of Jubilee as we reflect on how we are ‘pilgrims of hope’. Our hope and our prayer is that the Lord show him mercy and choose to number him among his saints.
Here in the North-east of England, we remember he chose for his motto words taken from our own Saint Bede, ‘miserando atque eligendo’. ‘By showing mercy and choosing him’, describing the call of Saint Matthew, is something Pope Francis’ recognised to be at the heart of his own vocation and the vocation of each one of us.
Bishop Stephen writes:
‘We give thanks for Pope Francis' ministry as a Jesuit priest, Bishop in Argentina and finally as the successor of St. Peter. As Pope he always looked at situations through the eyes of the poor following the example of his Patron, Saint Francis of Assisi. He was a joy to meet in person and an inspiration to so many, Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
We commend Pope Francis to the Lord, eternal rest grant unto him O Lord. May he rest in peace.’
Happy Easter
Father Adrian extends heartfelt Easter blessings to every member of our cherished community! May the profound hope and transforming joy of Christ's Resurrection illuminate your lives today and always.
What a truly special joy it was last night at our Vigil Easter Mass, after weeks of dedicated preparation and discernment, to witness (pictured left to right) Sarah, Sid, Flynn, Stephen, and Hanna embrace the fullness of faith and join our Catholic family! Their journey is an inspiration, and their presence enriches us all. Our warmest congratulations to each of them! We also extend immense gratitude to their sponsors and families, whose unwavering love, guidance, and prayers supported them on this incredible path.
Welcome message from Fr Adrian
Welcome to the website for the Catholic Church in Billingham. As you will see our parish is called Saint Thomas of Canterbury and our worship is currently based at two churches, Holy Rosary and Saint John’s.
If you are a newcomer or visitor to the area we would be delighted if you could join us for Mass and other services. Please see the weekly Newsletter for details.
As you browse the website you will find there are pages on what’s going on, how you can arrange Baptisms, Marriages etc. as well as prayers, reflections, and parish activities.
If you wish to become a regular worshipper and member of our parish we hope to make you feel at home as soon as possible. It would be good if you could get in touch with Father Adrian.
Perhaps you could complete a registration form which can be found at the back of each church. You could then hand it in at church or post it.
God bless you.
